It’s not funny, I could have died!
Her husband fell off the deck last night and thought that he was dying.
No one came to rescue him, from the place that he was lying
The storm continued raging, all around his head.
His wife and kids were snoring, safely tucked up in their bed.
The thunder struck and lightening broke the darkness of the night.
Enough to see no damage done, just a nasty fright.
The dog was barking crazily, letting the neighbours know.
Which woke his wife but not the kids, where did her husband go?
She looked in all the places, that a man, at night, might be.
She went downstairs and looked around but nothing there to see.
The thunder struck and lightning broke the darkness of the night.
Enough to see her collie dog, all soggy black and white.
Her husband heard her open the door and called ‘help’ feebly.
But she just got the dog inside, that’s all that she could see.
She dried his coat and calmed him down and stroked his trembling head.
And went to get some bathroom towels, to make a snugly bed.
The thunder struck and lightning broke the darkness of the night.
Enough to see her husband, a shocking, bloodied sight.
He came inside and kicked the dog and chucked him to the dark.
“It’s all his fault that stupid dog, I was trying to stop his bark.
I called and called, he would not come and ran below the deck.
I went to get him in the rain, I could have broke my neck!”
The thunder struck and lightning broke the darkness of the night.
“It’s really bad I’ve smashed my jaw and could have lost my sight”.
“Oh my dear, you poor poor thing, out there in the dark.
Is it really really frightening, is that what makes you bark ?”
The husband had raised his arms to her, but turned his head to see.
She was talking to the dog outside, when he needed sympathy.
The thunder struck and lightning broke the darkness of the night
Enough to see her husband limp off, a bruised and bloodied sight.
